eBay Item # 1062069203 Seller "Photocyclist" (Mario Girasa) ended Jan-21-02 Text of auction description: Here's a very nice 1961/62 (approx) Peugeot Super Deluxe. I believe it is 1961 because the original equipment on it are a Stronglight 57 and Simplex Juy 59 and Juy 61 derailleurs. I imagine that if it were 1963 or later, it would have the Stronglight 63 crank, and maybe the first delrin derailleurs. The condition is fantastic. The chrome is spotless and thick and shiny. Some paint has flaked from the frame, especially where there is chrome under the paint. Otherwise, the color is deep and thick, and the decals are quite nicely preserved. This frameset is made of Reynolds 531 tubing, and has the appropriate french-language version of the decals. The dropouts are monstrous thick Simplex dropouts that put Campagnolo dropouts to shame ! As mentioned, the derailleurs are the BADGED Simplex Juy 59 front and Juy 61 rear, with the appropriate Simplex elegant shifters (do these shifters have a model number/name ?). The crankset is Stronglight 57, quite rare and desirable. This was the finest crankset available, introduced in 1957, up until the next year, when Campagnolo decided to take the crown away from Simplex and introduced it's own ground-breaking Record crankset (see my other auctions). The pedals are hi-end Lyotard, with alloy cage. The brakes are Mafac Dural Forge. The bar/stem is the infamous AVA brand. The seatpost is a BADGED Simplex chrome-steel, attached to an Ideale criterium lace-up leather saddle. There are riveted holes along both flaps, and you would lace these holes with a thick piece of leather cord and pull tight like one of those victorian corsets, and the saddle would be transformed into a "swallow" type aerodynamic race-winner. We all know that the person with the most aerodynamic saddle always wins the race ;>) The hubs are the extraordinarily high-quality EXCELTOO brand, Super Competition model. You need to look at these up-close to see how shiny and hi-quality they are. The skewers are Simplex. The rims are sewup Mavic Sport, the decal is missing, but the rims are engraved "Mavic Sport". The bottom bracket and headset are the correct Stronglight hi-end of the period. There is a TA handlebar cage holding an aluminum bottle with some very nice red/white/blue french flag treatment. The aluminum pump also has red and blue bands. There are nice aluminum short fenders on this bike. Perhaps a thinly painted red and blue pin stripe on these fenders is a detail which the new owner might like to add. The tires are old but not original. The size of the frame is 58cm, with square geometry, so this bike must have been quite agressive in it's day. The lugs are Nervex Professional except for the bottom bracket shell which is engraved "RGF", indicative of the "Gargette" lug manufacturers. There is a thin metallic headbadge riveted to the headtube.
